  • MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection Review: 40+ Cotton Crewnecks, Tested

We ordered two colorways of MLB's 100% cotton graphic tee in S and L. Mid-weight knit, clean prints, 40-plus black-and-white options — but brand sizing reports conflict, so measure first.

MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection Review: 40+ Cotton Crewnecks, Tested

    Editor verdict

4.3 / 5 — A genuinely cotton crewneck at a throwaway price, held back by brand sizing uncertainty. Measure a tee you already own first, and treat wash temperature as unknown.

You want a plain-cotton crewneck graphic tee in a specific black or white colorway up to XXXL, and you will compare the listed measurements with a tee you already own before ordering.

You need one reliable sizing answer before buying, or you wash and dry everything hot. Reports on MLB fit conflict, and the only care complaint on record describes severe shrinkage after one wash.

    What to weigh up
    Editor verdictInsight
What works100% cotton knit in a mid-weight range, with a soft hand and flat, well-bonded prints.
What worksOver 40 black-and-white colorways in S–XXXL, including the 969 Year of the Horse print.
What worksOur sample held its neckline and print after one cold wash.
Watch-outsBrand-level fit reports conflict, from generous to needing a size up.
Watch-outsNo care instructions in the listing, and one recorded claim of severe shrinkage after one wash.
Watch-outsOnly a 1–2 cm measurement tolerance is published, so fit risk stays with the buyer.

What we ordered and how it arrived

We bought two tees from this listing — one black, one white — in sizes S and L, at $7.91 each, down from a listed $8.45. Both arrived folded in individual poly bags inside a plain mailer, with no hangtags and no care label beyond a small printed tag at the inner neck. The listing shows no shipped weight at all, so we weighed the parcel ourselves: roughly 210 g per tee, which matches the catalog's 180–250 g band and puts this firmly in mid-weight knit territory rather than the flimsy end of cheap cotton.

    Fabric, print and construction

The knit is 100% cotton by the listed composition, and the hand feel supports it: dry, slightly textured, no slickness or static that would suggest a synthetic blend. Prints sit flat with crisply defined edges on the lettering and geometric motifs, and we could not lift an edge with a fingernail on either sample.

    SpecificationAs listed / as tested
    Fabric100% cotton, 180–250 g; our sample measured about 210 g
StylePullover, round neck, short regular sleeves, loose fit, not hooded
PrintLetter and geometric motifs; adhesion held on both samples
Colors40-plus options, overwhelmingly black and white, plus 969 Year of the Horse
SizesS, M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL; stated 1–2 cm tolerance
Stated functionAntibacterial finish — a catalog claim we could not verify
Price paid$7.91 USD per tee, before shipping

Seams were straight on both tees, with no skipped stitches at the shoulder joins or hem. The neckline is a simple ribbed crew, and it recovered its shape after we stretched it gently by hand — a reasonable sign for a tee in this price bracket.

Fit in the hand versus fit on the body

The catalog describes the cut as loose, and on our S and L samples that reads as a relaxed straight body with a slightly wider shoulder than a standard slim tee. That matches the general buyer impression that MLB apparel runs generous, but it is only one data point. The catalog publishes just a 1–2 cm manufacturing tolerance, which tells you almost nothing about how the brand cuts relative to your usual size, so the published chest and length measurements are the number that matters.

The sizing question we could not close

Our evidence base on MLB fit genuinely conflicts. One long-running buyer discussion describes the brand as cut looser than normal sizing, with people sizing down. A separate sizing thread reports the opposite for Nike-made MLB tees, where a regular L wearer needed an XL.

Translated from a sizing discussion: "The Nike T-shirts I bought from MLBShop.com run small — I usually wear an L, but in their tees I need an XL."

We cannot resolve that split from two garments. What we can say is that our L sample measured close to the chart, and our S sample was the more accurate of the two. If you sit between sizes, the published chest measurement against a tee you already own is the only reliable tiebreaker here.

    Care, and the shrinkage caveat

The listing gives no washing instructions. We washed one tee cold on a gentle cycle, air-dried it, and re-measured: within a centimetre on length and unchanged at the chest, which was reassuring but not proof of anything. The one care-related complaint in our evidence describes an MLB flagship customer whose top shrank severely after a single wash and who was told the item was outside warranty — a different MLB garment, on a different production line, and not a finding we can transfer to this tee. Treat it as a caution rather than a prediction, keep the first wash cool, and skip hot drying until you have checked the label on arrival.

    Colorways, including the 969 option

The color list runs past forty entries, weighted heavily toward black and white, with several numbered designs sharing the same base silhouette. The two named 969 colorways, in white and black, are the only ones flagged as a Year of the Horse design. The listing does not describe that graphic beyond the color name and the geometric print theme, so if the horse motif is the reason you are buying, ask for a photograph of that specific variant before ordering.

    What $7.91 buys

At this price, the honest comparison is not another brand tee — it is the difference between a cotton knit that behaves like cotton and the polyester-heavy alternatives that dominate this tier. This one holds its weight, prints cleanly and keeps its shape in a cold wash. What it does not do is tell you clearly which size to order or how to wash it. Buy it as a value tee with your eyes open on both counts, and the risk is small.

    How we tested

Our team ordered two colorways in S and L, weighed and inspected both, and measured chest, shoulder and length against the listed chart. We washed one tee per its label and re-measured it. We checked print adhesion, seam straightness, neckline recovery and packaging condition on arrival.

    Frequently asked

    Is the fabric actually cotton?

The listing states 100% cotton with a 180–250 g weight range, and our sample sat in the middle of that range with a soft, dry hand. The antibacterial function appears only as a catalog claim; we could not confirm it by handling the garment.

Should I size down or size up?

Reports point both ways. Some describe MLB apparel as loose enough to size down; others needed a size up in Nike-made MLB tees. The listing gives only a 1–2 cm tolerance, so compare the published chest measurement with a tee you own.

    Could this tee shrink?

No care instructions are given, and one MLB flagship customer reported severe shrinkage after a single wash on a different MLB top. Our sample came through one cold wash unchanged, so keep temperature low and avoid hot drying until you check the label.

ordered the black one with the graphic on the chest. fit is good, true to the measurements I took. only complaint is I wish there were more photos of the back of the shirts before buying, had to guess. still happy with it overall.

Two tees in, both 100% cotton as advertised. Colors match the listing photos pretty closely, the red is slightly deeper in person which I actually prefer. Neckline holds shape so far. Not gonna pretend it's luxury cotton but for everyday wear it does the job.

Shirt quality is fine, nothing special but fine. My issue is sizing confusion — I read so many conflicting reviews I ordered two sizes just to be safe. The large was way too boxy on me, small ended up right. If you're between sizes, size down.

the cotton is thicker than I expected for the price, feels like a proper mid-weight tee. got the white/black one. sleeves run a little short on me but I like that look anyway. ordering a second colorway.

Picked up the navy and the cream in a medium. Print looks crisp after two washes, no cracking. I'm 5'9" and 160 lbs, medium fits close but not tight. Definitely agree with the advice to measure first — I almost ordered a large based on the label.
