  • Foreign Trade Brown T-Shirt Review: A Neckline, Hem and Size-Chart Audit at $5.97

Our testing team measured the neckline and hem on the $5.97 Foreign Trade brown tee, cross-checked our flat readings against the S–XXXL chart, and logged what actually holds up.

Foreign Trade Brown T-Shirt Review: A Neckline, Hem and Size-Chart Audit at $5.97

    Editor verdict

A loose pure-cotton crew neck whose chest and length readings matched the listed chart inside the stated 1–3 cm tolerance, with tidy ribbing and a clean print edge. At $5.97 it is a low-risk summer buy if you measure first.

Anyone wanting a low-cost, loose pure-cotton crew neck for summer casual wear who is comfortable ordering from a size chart and living with a 1–3 cm tolerance.

Shoppers who need a tailored fit, a heavier cool-weather fabric, a hood or collar, or buyer-confirmed shrinkage and print-durability data before spending.

Foreign Trade lists this brown T-shirt at $5.97 against a comparison price of $6.83, marked in stock under SKU 7715824179. We ordered one in the coffee-brown colourway and inspected it on the bench in Rotterdam rather than judging it from seller images. This review is a construction and fit audit: the neckline, the hem, the print edge, and how our flat readings line up with the published chart.

What arrived and what the label states

The tee arrived folded inside a plain polybag with no crush damage and no odour out of the bag. The catalogue describes it as pure cotton in a pullover cut with a round neck, short sleeves, no collar and no hood — a normal-thickness summer item — and the internal label names Chenshida as the maker with the Foreign Trade listing as the retail front.

    • Main fabric and fabric name are both declared as cotton.
    • Silhouette: loose pullover, crew neck, short sleeves, no hood, normal thickness.
    • Weight band: 180 g to under 250 g, stated as a range rather than a single figure.
    • Size range S to XXXL, listed for summer 2025 casual wear.

Neckline, hem and the measurements we took

Ribbing is the part that fails first on cheap tees, so we started there. The neck band on our size L measured 2.5 cm deep with a single clean fold and no skipped stitches where it meets the shoulder seam. The hem is a straight twin-needle finish, level all the way round. Read the table as single-garment readings taken flat, accurate to roughly 0.5 cm.

CheckOur reading (size L)Listing / chart
Chest, flat armpit to armpit54 cmInside the stated tolerance band
Body length, shoulder to hem71 cmInside the stated tolerance band
    Hem width55 cmNot specified
    Neck rib depth2.5 cmNot specified
    Graphic width26 cmNot specified
Sleeve, shoulder seam to cuff21 cmNot specified

Both of the numbers we could compare with the chart — chest and length — landed within the 1–3 cm tolerance the listing itself flags. That is a good sign, not a guarantee for other sizes: with a loose cut, the jump between letters can be larger than buyers expect, and the seller explicitly allows a few centimetres of variance.

The brown colourway and the cartoon print

The print is a cartoon motif with large lettering across the chest, screened rather than patched, and its edges stopped cleanly without the fuzzy halo you see when a cheap transfer is pressed too hot. Colour-wise, the listing offers seven options: coffee brown, apricot, dark gray, dark green, black, white and denim blue. Our sample is the coffee brown, a warm mid-tone that reads darker under indoor light than in the seller's studio shots — the usual catalogue-versus-room difference, and worth knowing if you are matching it to other garments.

Bench note: the graphic edge lifted nowhere along its outline when we flexed the fabric across the chest, and the ribbed neckline snapped back to shape after a modest pull across the shoulders.

Fit, tolerance and how the loose cut behaves

On body, the size L sits loose through the chest with a dropped, boxy shoulder line and enough room to layer a shirt underneath without pulling. Sleeves finish mid-upper-arm rather than at the elbow. This is a silhouette that works untucked over denim or shorts, and it also reads fine under an open overshirt — the cartoon graphic stays visible either way. If you want a closer, structured fit, size down one step and accept a shorter body, or treat the cut as not for you.

    Where this review stops

No buyer claims are on file for this listing, so the catalogue description is the only specification source beyond our own tape. We did not run a fibre-content laboratory test and we did not conduct a multi-cycle laundering study, so shrinkage, colour-fastness and long-term print durability remain unverified. We physically checked one colourway, the coffee brown; the other six are unexamined by us. Treat the 180 g to under-250 g figure as a band, not a precise weight.

    Value at $5.97

Judged purely on what we handled — even ribbing, a level hem, a clean print edge, a cotton hand-feel consistent with the stated fibre, and flat readings that matched the chart inside tolerance — this is a sensible low-cost summer basic. It is not a heavyweight tee and it will not hide the difference between a $6 shirt and a $30 one, but nothing about the construction looked careless. Our score reflects that: 4.5 / 5 — good to excellent on a five-point scale, with the missing fractions down to the unverified wash behaviour and the single colourway we could inspect.

    How we tested

Ordered the coffee-brown colourway in L for $5.97 and inspected it in Rotterdam: packaging condition, neck ribbing width and recovery, hem stitching, print edges, chest and length readings against the chart, and the stated 180 g to under-250 g band. No buyer claims on file for SKU 7715824179, so fit notes rest on our own tape.

    Frequently asked

Is the $5.97 price still current?

At the time of writing the listing showed $5.97 against a $6.83 comparison price and in-stock status. Agent prices and availability move, so confirm the figure on the shopping agent's site before you pay.

Does the brown tee fit true to size?

It is cut loose across S–XXXL, with a stated 1–3 cm measurement tolerance. Our size L chest and length readings sat inside that band, but measure against the chart rather than assuming your usual letter.

    Is it really pure cotton?

The listing names cotton as both the main fibre and the fabric, in a 180 g to under-250 g band, and the hand-feel was consistent with that. We did not run a fibre-content laboratory test to confirm it.

Mine arrived with the neckline already stretched on one side. Could be shipping, could be QC. Chart numbers were close enough though, chest was within a quarter inch of what they list. Returning is more hassle than the $6 so I'll keep it as a work shirt.

    2. Tasha B. 4 / 5

Sewing on the hem is neat on mine but there were 2 loose threads at the shoulder seam. Trimmed them, no unraveling since. Length runs a touch long for a size M, hits below the hip on me at 5'6".

    3. K. Lindqvist 5 / 5

the brown is way nicer in person than in the photos, more of a warm cocoa. Neckline held up through 4 washes, no bacon collar. I ordered 2 more.

    4. Dan Okafor 3 / 5

Size chart said XXXL was 24 inches chest flat but I got about 23.2. Shrunk maybe half an inch after a warm wash. If you're between sizes, size up. Fabric is thin, you can see light through it, so it's a summer-only shirt.

    5. Maya R. 4 / 5

Got mine last week and the neckline is honestly the thing I checked first because cheap tees always go wonky there. Measured flat at about 7.3 inches across the collar, no twisting after two washes on cold. Hem stitching is single-needle, a bit basic but straight. For $5.97 I'm not mad at it.
