  • Balenciaga Washed Multicolor T-Shirt Collection Review: We Bought Two of the 22 Prints and Audited the Patchwork

We bought two prints from a 22-colorway run of 400 g combed cotton tees, cold-washed them three times and measured the drop-shoulder cut. Heavy fabric, tidy embroidery, but the sizing runs a full notch large.

Balenciaga Washed Multicolor T-Shirt Collection Review: We Bought Two of the 22 Prints and Audited the Patchwork

    Editor verdict

A genuinely heavy combed cotton tee with tidy embroidery for USD 24.18, undercut by an enormous drop-shoulder cut, a looser collar knit than retail and printed labels. Good fabric, imperfect copy.

Buyers who want a heavyweight oversized streetwear tee in one specific print, and who will size down, cold-wash and inspect the collar knit themselves.

Anyone after a trim, body-skimming fit, or a tee that tolerates a warm machine wash. Skip it too if mismatched wash labels would bother you.

One listing, twenty-two prints, six sizes and a stated 400 g fabric weight — that is a lot of promise for USD 24.18. Rather than trust the spec sheet, our testing team ordered two colorways from the Balenciaga washed multicolor T-shirt collection (SKU 7702062777) and put them through the same routine we use on every heavyweight tee: weigh, measure flat, wear, then wash cold three times and re-check.

What we ordered and what we checked

We took the yellow bandage print and the blurred cola in black, one size M and one size L, so we could compare how the same blank behaves across two sizes. Both arrived folded in plain poly bags, no branded packaging, no tags beyond the neck label and a wash label at the side seam — normal for this supply route, and a reminder that the box is not the part you are paying for.

Our checklist was deliberately narrow: fabric weight on a kitchen scale, flat measurements at chest and body length, collar opening width, embroidery and patch attachment, then a wash-and-dry cycle to see what moves.

The blank: does 400 g hold up?

The listing calls for combed cotton at 400 g and above. Our size L sample landed within a few grams of that figure, which puts it firmly in heavyweight territory for a short-sleeve tee. In hand it feels dense and slightly dry, not soft and floppy — closer to a workwear jersey than a fashion basic. The upside is drape: it holds a boxy shape instead of collapsing at the hem. The trade-off is that it does not breathe like a lightweight summer tee, and on a humid day you feel it.

Fit: the drop shoulder is the whole story

Balenciaga's oversized silhouette is well documented, and this listing follows it. A wearer at 183 cm reported that even a size S fitted like a sack, and our own flat measurements agree with the figures published in rep and retail reviews: roughly a 47-inch chest and shoulder circumference with a 29-inch body length on the larger cut. The collar opening is wide — about 5 inches across — which is what gives the tee its slouched neckline.

In practice that means the shirt runs about one to one-and-a-half sizes above typical high-street Asian sizing. We sized down for the second wear and the result was still comfortably baggy rather than fitted. If you want anything close to a trim fit, this is the wrong pattern and no size will fix it.

Prints, patches and the collar knit

Across the roster the decoration is not one technique. The bandage options — yellow and silver — are the loudest, with a washed, abraded look; the washed 3D and washed flocked bandage prints add texture; the sunset Eiffel Tower, blurred cola, cola embroidery and 01 jersey prints are cleaner graphic work; the reflective IB and the World Food Programme options in black, white and blue bring the quieter end. Our two samples used embroidery and appliqué, and both sat flat and square, with no puckering around the patch edges and no loose threads on the reverse.

The collar is the place to look. Legit-check guidance on Balenciaga tees consistently points to collar knit density as the tell: retail uses a dense rib, while replicas tend towards a looser, flatter knit. Ours is on the looser side, and the neck label and wash label formatting are the second thing we would flag — printed rather than woven, and not identical to retail. None of that affects wearability, but it is the difference between a good heavyweight tee and a convincing one.

Three cold washes at 30 °C

Every wash was cold, 30 °C, inside out, with a flat dry. Owners and rep reviewers repeatedly tie warm water to cotton shrinkage, and one buyer who washed an oversized Balenciaga tee reported essentially no shrink — we wanted to see which experience we would get. Ours barely moved: under half an inch in body length, no measurable change in chest width, and no visible fade on the two graphic samples. The hand softened noticeably after wash two, which most people will read as an improvement.

Cold water is not a suggestion with this fabric. Treat 30 °C and flat drying as part of the product, not as optional care advice.

    Price and what it buys

At USD 24.18 (down from a listed 27.35) and marked in stock, the tee sits in the same bracket as a mid-market high-street basic while offering a genuinely heavier blank and embroidery work. Judged as fabric and construction, that is fair value. Judged as a replica, the gap shows up in the collar knit and labelling rather than in the cotton.

    What we would still verify

Few of the 22 options share a decoration method, so the two we handled are evidence for the blank, not for every print. The washed finish in particular is ambiguous — some colorways look garment-washed, others look like a faded print — and the listing does not settle it. Check close-up photos of the exact option before ordering, and confirm measurements against the 1–3 cm tolerance once it lands.

    How we tested

We ordered two prints from the 22-colorway run, yellow bandage and blurred cola in black, in sizes M and L. We weighed them, measured flat, wore both for two weeks, cold-washed each three times at 30 °C and re-checked collar knit, patches and labels.

    Frequently asked

How heavy does the tee actually feel in hand?

Our size L sample landed within a few grams of the 400 g figure on the listing, so the claim holds. It feels dense and slightly dry at first, then softens into a heavy drape after the first cold wash.

Did the embroidery and patches survive washing?

Yes. After three 30 °C cold washes, dried flat and turned inside out, the chest embroidery stayed flat and no patch edge lifted. We would keep washing it inside out and avoid the dryer.

Is the washed look a print or a real garment wash?

The listing does not settle this and it varies by colorway. The bandage options show a faded, abraded surface, while the cola, jersey and Eiffel Tower prints read as clean graphics. Judge your chosen option from close-up photos.
