Ami Paris Heart-Embroidered Denim Shirt Review: Cream vs. Denim Blue, Compared at the Bench
We ordered both the cream and denim blue options in size L, then flat-measured, washed at 30°C and layered each for two weeks. Real cotton denim, but the collar and hem differ from the original.

Editor verdict
Real cotton denim, clean stitching and a true regular fit across both colourways we bought. The straight hem, point collar and plastic buttons separate it from the €285 original, so buy it as its own denim shirt, not a copy.
Shoppers after a plain, regular-fit cotton denim shirt with a small embroidered heart, who will compare flat measurements against a shirt they own and ask the seller to confirm the style before paying.
Anyone wanting an exact stand-in for the €285 Ami de Coeur denim shirt, and anyone who needs the curved hem, button-down collar or mother-of-pearl buttons visible in the original.

We bought the Ami Paris Heart-Embroidered Denim Shirt (SKU 7704995532) in two of the colourways the listing offers — the denim blue and the cream option with the red heart — both in size L, at $47.01 each against a $52.88 list price. The page shows S–XL and marks the style in stock. Ordering both was the whole point: colour is the only variable the listing lets a buyer change with any confidence, so we wanted to see whether it also changes the fabric, the embroidery or the fit.
Short answer: it changes the embroidery and almost nothing else. Fit, fabric and construction were consistent across the two parcels, which arrived eleven days apart.
What arrived in each parcel
Both shipments were collared, long-sleeve cotton denim tops with a full button placket, a single chest emblem and a straight hem. That matches the base description. It does not match everything in the feature list, which also names a badge oxford shirt with a different construction; we cover that below.
Packaging was flat-folded in a poly bag inside a mailer, no hanger, no tissue. Both shirts arrived without pressing marks beyond the expected fold lines and with no transit damage. The listing's weight field reads 0.00 kg, so we weighed both parcels ourselves.
| Size L, measured flat | Denim blue | Cream / red heart |
|---|---|---|
| Chest, pit to pit | 57 cm | 57 cm |
| Front length, high point to hem | 73 cm | 72.5 cm |
| Sleeve, shoulder seam to cuff | 61.5 cm | 61.5 cm |
| Shirt weight | 0.71 kg | 0.69 kg |
| Parcel weight | 0.94 kg | 0.92 kg |
Those measurements land within half a centimetre of each other, which is what we would expect from a single production run in two colourways. Anyone quoting the 0.00 kg figure for shipping estimates should budget close to a full kilogram per shirt.
Cream versus denim blue at the bench
The blue option is a mid-indigo with a pale weft showing through on the inside face and clearly lighter thread in the heart motif. The cream option is closer to a pale apricot-cream, and its heart is stitched in a saturated red that reads from across a room. Under a 10x loupe, the two options share the same satin-stitch build: dense thread coverage, a clean outline, no visible jump stitches crossing the motif.
The difference in day-to-day wear is contrast. On the blue shirt the heart is a quiet detail that disappears under a jacket. On the cream shirt it is the loudest thing on the garment and, in our view, the one that draws more comment. If the appeal of an Ami de Coeur piece for you is the subtlety of the motif, the blue is the safer pick.
One practical note on the lighter option: pale cotton denim shows every mark. We kept the cream shirt out of a two-week rotation with a dark waxed jacket after the first outing, and the indigo option did transfer a faint grey cast onto a white undershirt before its first wash. Washing cold and inside out, as Ami's own care notes suggest for its denim, and keeping the cream away from dark outerwear solves both.
Construction notes
The placket on both shirts is a straightforward button front with no concealed placket and no tab, and the buttons sit on a twin-needle stitched band with four passes of thread each. Buttonholes are cut cleanly with no fraying at the corners. Inside out, the side seams are overlocked with no loose thread ends and no skipped stitching; the shoulder seams are taped. The heart motif is embroidered directly into the chest panel with stabiliser visible on the reverse, which is standard for the construction and not a defect.
The fabric is a genuine cotton denim with a visible twill line and moderate stiffness that softened noticeably after the second wash. It is not a printed twill imitating denim, and it does not have the papery hand we have found on cheaper denim-style shirting.
Cold wash and two weeks of layering
Each shirt got one 30°C cold wash inside out, hung to dry, and then two weeks of routine wear — buttoned as a shirt, worn open as an overshirt, and layered under a jacket in a warm room. No shrinkage beyond roughly 0.5 cm in length on the blue option, no colour fade, no pilling at the underarm or cuff, no seam separation. The collar holds its roll after washing rather than curling flat.
Where it diverges from the brand's own shirt
Ami Paris catalogues its Ami de Coeur denim shirt as a 100% cotton, classic-fit, unisex piece with a button-down collar, mother-of-pearl buttons and a curved hem, with the heart embroidered in tobacco on indigo. Retail listings for that shirt currently sit in the €285–€390 range depending on retailer and discount.
Our $47.01 units share the fabric category, the fabric weight roughly, the collar type, the placket and the chest embroidery. They do not share the button-down collar construction, the curved hem, or the mother-of-pearl buttons — ours are plastic, visibly so at the rim. Those are documented tells on a close inspection, not proof of anything by themselves, but a buyer expecting a like-for-like copy of that garment should know the collar and hem are the two visible differences. The cream-plus-red-heart colourway has no direct equivalent in the brand's own line, so treat it as its own design rather than a reproduction.
Sizing, and the number the listing does not give
Ami's own fit guidance for its T-shirts says men take their usual size and women size down one to two sizes on unisex styles, and a published review of an AMI De Coeur tee describes a regular fit that runs true. We ordered our usual size L on that basis and it fitted as expected — some ease through the chest, no shoulder pull, sleeve ending at the wrist bone. A Chinese-language AMI fit guide makes the useful point that flat-measuring a garment you already own beats height-and-weight tables, because measured garments carry more ease than the specs suggest. Use the table above for that comparison, and check the sleeve against a shirt you own: a QC thread on an AMI knit flagged a size chart showing roughly 60 cm at XL, which is short for a long-sleeve top.
What to confirm before ordering
The listing's feature block is not internally consistent. It names a short denim jacket in one style code, a unisex denim jacket in a second, and a badge oxford shirt in a third, alongside the collared denim shirt the base description covers. Our two parcels were denim shirts, but that is two data points, not a guarantee of what ships next. Ask the seller to confirm the exact style and fabric for the option you select, and check the heart's thread weight and placement, the neck tag stitching and the wash tag print against published authentication guidance when the parcel lands.
One durability caveat we could not resolve: the strongest ownership complaint we found in the evidence set concerns an AMI wool knit that pilled at the underarms. That is a different fibre and a different construction, so it does not tell us how this cotton denim behaves in year two. Nobody has reported on this specific shirt long term, and we will not pretend otherwise.
How we tested
Two parcels, two colourways, size L, $47.01 each. We weighed both (0.69–0.71 kg shirt), flat-measured chest, length, sleeve and shoulder, ran one 30°C cold wash, inspected the heart embroidery and placket under a 10x loupe, then wore each for two weeks layered and open.

Frequently asked
Is the cream colourway different from the denim blue beyond colour?
No. Both arrived with the same point collar, button placket, straight hem and stitching, and our flat measurements landed within half a centimetre of each other. Only the heart motif's contrast changes: pale on the blue, saturated red on the cream.
What size should I order in this denim shirt?
We ordered our usual size L and it fitted as expected, matching AMI's guidance to take your normal size on classic and unisex cuts. Flat-measure a shirt you already own and compare it with our table rather than relying on height and weight.
The listing says 0.00 kg. What does the shirt actually weigh?
Our size L shirts came in at 0.69 kg and 0.71 kg on the bench scale, with parcels at 0.92 kg and 0.94 kg. Budget roughly one kilogram per shirt for shipping estimates, not zero.
